Client Overview
El-Sewedy Electric for Trading and Distribution (EETD) is a leader in energy management and efficiency with a rich history of over 80 years.
They are dedicated to promoting safety across their operations, aiming for a hazard-free work environment for their employees and workmen.
Their Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team focuses on preventive actions to save lives through ongoing training and hazard reporting.
The Challenge
EETD faced several challenges with their traditional offline training programs:
- Time and Productivity Loss: Bringing employees from work sites to office training sessions was time-consuming and caused delays in their workflow.
- Trainer Availability: Many trainers were busy engineers, limiting the frequency of training.
- Capacity Issues: Physical space limits restricted the capacity to train a large number of employees at once.
To address these issues and ensure a safer working environment, EETD sought a more efficient, scalable solution for educating their workforce on identifying and reporting hazards. GFD Learning partnered with EETD to bring this vision to life through digital training solutions.
The Solution
GFD Learning developed a highly customized, interactive online course on Hazards Identification & Reporting, tailored specifically to EETD’s needs.
GFD Learning Interactive course aimed to:
- Create an Engaging Learning Journey: Through immersive learning experiences, employees could practice making decisions, understand consequences, and receive feedback in real-life scenarios.
- Gamification: Key elements such as gamified learning and scoring systems were incorporated to make the training more engaging.
- Branched Scenarios: Real-life situations were used to help employees recognize hazardous materials and learn how to report them effectively.
- Interactive Case Studies and Exercises: These helped solidify knowledge through hands-on learning.
One of the course’s key features was the AMAN GAME, which taught workmen how to identify and use danger signs in real-world scenarios. The game included challenges, support resources, and a scoring system to motivate learners.
GFD Learning Secret Recipe:
10% Gamification + 20% Branched scenarios + 15%Non branched scenarios + 25%Interactive case studies 30% Interactive exercises = 100% Interactivity
We, the GFD Learning team, introduced a highly customized interactive course turning a very solid & boring content into an exciting learning journey to study.
When you work on developing influential content like this, through an immersive learning journey, in which the learner could make decisions, see the results of those decisions and be provided with feedback upon them.
GFD Learning believes in using interactive, game-based learning to make safety training more effective. In this case, we:
- used branched and unbranched scenarios to provide varied learning paths.
- Included interactive exercises to encourage active participation.
- Used gamification to engage learners and reinforce concepts.
Through these techniques, we ensured that EETD’s employees not only learned how to recognize hazards but were motivated to actively engage in safety practices.
The Results
The course had a significant impact on both the safety culture at EETD and operational efficiency:
In just 80 days, GFD Learning’s team researched, developed, and launched this course, which is now an integral part of EETD’s safety management system.
Project Numbers:
- 300 lives protected through the course training.
- 12 offline training sessions saved per year.
- 80 days to complete content development, animation, and deployment.
“Change is unstoppable, and only companies that adapt how they share knowledge will thrive. EETD, in partnership with GFD Learning, pioneered a new approach that has greatly enhanced our employees’ learning and fostered a safer, hazard-free culture. GFD Learning’s professionalism, teamwork, and commitment were key to this success.”
– Eng. Waleed Saad, HR Director, El-Sewedy Electric T&D
